Family Counseling Services provides specialized mental health services for families by focusing on the prevention and treatment of emotional trauma to foster resiliency in children from infancy through adolescence. FCS believes that a strong family unit provides children with a sense of belonging and a critical sense of value and gives them a vital network for social support.

 

History

Founded in 1917 by Mamie Torell, Family Counseling Services (FCS) is the longest-serving agency dedicated to promoting mental health and emotional wellness throughout Miami-Dade County. A founding member organization of the United Way of Miami-Dade, FCS is a collaborative partner with many other groups and organizations. FCS has adapted its services over time to meet the changing needs of the community, and has achieved the highest standards for professional practice since accreditation became available from the Council on Accreditation (COA) in 1980. Effective July 1, 2014, Family Counseling Services will merge with Switchboard and become a division within Switchboard. Click here to read more about the merger.

 

FCS Programs

Family Counseling Services provides an array of specialized mental health services for families. Clients range from infants, children and adolescents, to adults and caregivers. FCS offers mental health counseling for individuals, families and groups, as well as testing and evaluation. FCS provides community outreach and prevention education and care coordination. With a strong reputation for providing quality services and programs, FCS is also focused on serving the Hispanic community including geographically-driven programs in community neighborhoods. Highly trained and well respected as leaders in their field, staff is multi-linguistic and multi-cultural.
